TWO OPTIONS (Indoors and outdoors; group must choose one)

1) State Capitol Art Treasure Hunt
Go on a self-guided scavenger hunt to discover 12 beautiful and important decorations in the State Capitol building. Each self-guided booklet includes a set of 12 gold stars that are placed next to the corresponding photographs when the item is discovered. At the end of the hunt, visitors are awarded a gold state seal, get Capitol architect Cass Gilbert's signature and become Junior Art Historians. The booklet is available at the Capitol's Information Desk.

Dates: May 7, 2011, May 8, 2011, May 14, 2011, May 15, 2011, May 21, 2011, & May 22, 2011.

Time: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Fee: $2 per booklet.

Notes: To successfully complete you need to give Mr. Kelly one completed booklet, with gold state seal, and send a picture of your entire group at the capitol (photo should clearly show that you’re in St. Paul). See Mr. Kelly with any questions. Do not go alone. Tell your parents where you’re going (they may come along, too). Have fun!

2) Geocaching at Lebanon Hills Park
What is geocaching? http://www.co.dakota.mn.us/LeisureRecreation/CountyParks/Activities/Geocaching.htm

Your group must find two caches. Each must be accompanied with a photo of 1) the cache 2) the log book, and 3) your group around the box in Lebanon Hills. When you return, send Mr. Kelly the photographs and the exact coordinates. DO NOT GO ALONE.

Notes: you may rent a geocaching GPS device at the Lebanon Hills Visitor Center. You may also, depending on your model, use your car GPS or your mobile phone with a specific app. Wear pants, long sleeves, and shoes. DO NOT GO ALONE. Tell your parents where you are going (they may come, if they wish) and use your best judgment. Have Fun!

Community Cup Challenge: Hiawatha Light Rail Historic Statue & Marker Tour

Conditions and Tips:
1) Set aside at least three hours, but feel free to make an afternoon of the tour by having lunch along the way. Watch your time and do not let your train tickets expire.

2) Friends and family are welcome, but at least two group members must be present in the photo series to complete the challenge.

3) The tour should be taken during daylight hours and under no condition should it be undertaken alone.

4) Bring a camera and print this sheet as a guide. At each statue take a picture with at least one group member visible.

5) Put the photos in a PowerPoint and email them to Mr. Kelly by the last day of April. Mr. Kelly’s email: john.kelly@district196.org

6) The trip may be done in reverse order. 7) Have fun, be safe, and see Mr. Kelly with any questions or concerns.

Cook a meal for your family. You must cook and clean the dishes! Plan ahead and inform your family. No ordering-out and KEEP IT SIMPLE. Bon appétit. Bring Mr. Kelly a signed note from a family member verifying your cooking skills. An email may be sent to john.kelly@district196.org

2) Each member of each group must create or update an emergency kit for a car. If you already have one, make one for a friend. Include as many of the following in a coffee can or plastic box; a list of possible items can be viewed here: http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/safety/motorist/winterdriving/survival-kit.htm

1) Valentines for Children’s Hospital (afterschool on 2/9 in C232), or write a letter to an adult that has influenced you in a positive way. Send Mr. Kelly the name of the recipient at john.kelly@district196.org

2) Each group must donate a gently used children’s book per group member. For example, 5 members = 5 books. Bring books to Mr. Kelly in C232.

Each team must bring in one package of store bought (sealed) cookies. Cookies will be donated to local firefighters and police officers. Cookies should be delivered to Mr. Kelly in C232.

2)Each team must volunteer in the community. Possibilities might be, but are not excluded to, Feed My Starving Children, local food shelves and shelters, places of worship, etc. Each team must have a volunteer supervisor sign a dated note of participation. All notes should be delivered to Mr. Kelly in C232.

1)Bring in two nonperishable food items per team member for the Food Drive. Deliver to C232 and have Mr. Kelly to check your team off.

2) Shovel a neighbor’s driveway. Ask before and explain why you’re doing it for FREE. Do a nice job and get them to write a note confirming your decent actions. Deliver the note to Mr. Kelly in C232.

3) Two Options (A & B); must choose one:

A) Bring in a new toy to be donated to Toys For Tots. Deliver toy(s) to Mr. Kelly in C232.

B) Make an adult sized snowman. Have a team picture taken with your snowman and make sure that EASTVIEW gear is visible. Send Mr. Kelly the picture at john.kelly@district196.org

2009 Holiday Food Drive

Goal: 10,000 Holiday Dollars (lbs. of food + cash donations)

Total: 10,323 Holiday Dollars!

EVHS staff and students donated over 6000 pounds of food and over $4000 in checks and cash to the Dakota County Food Shelf in Rosemount.

Thank you for all of your leadership in making the Food Drive a great success!

10/13/09: 16,416 meals made (90 min./40 council members).

10/14/09: 58 packages of cookies for local police officers and firefighters.
